Communion Sacrifices (B) 8-5-01

Sermon communion sacrifice 8-5-01

Abraham & Issac

God called Abraham to do the unthinkable
He did not want to, but Abraham was willing
Issac asks….dad where is the sacrifice???
God will provide himself
He trusted God
What ever god asks, just bring it

Job passage …..We don’t always trust god no matter what
We want him to do stuff for us
Make our life easier
The mature faith, struggles with the world and still trusts God
Job passage ….tho he slay me yet will I trust him

Malachi passage …Abraham was faithful and so was given a promise
He obeyed and received a blessing
Often we want all the blessings
with out even being faithful to what we have been called to do
Malachi passage
This one is about money, but it applied to anything
We cannot expect more and more, until we are faithful in the basic things god has asked us to do
What has God asked, bring it

1 sam 15 to obey is better than sacrifice ….God asks us to follow him.
To obey him [Samuel & Saul]
We can find forgiveness when we sin
But faithfulness in the first place is preferred
1 sam 15 to obey is better than sacrifice

Conclusion
fact is even when we try to be faithful, while it is important,
it does not bridge the gap between heaven & hell.
Our gifts our sacrifices, our faithfulness is impt
But they do not restore the relationship
For that we must go back to what abraham told issac
God will provide himself
He did this in Jesus Christ

God will provide himself
God did provide himself
