Sermon 5-2-99 Communion "I want to know him"

It was discovered on her desk by her younger brother, Chris, Tuesday night when it became clear that she would not be coming home.
Now I have given up on everything else-- I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again, and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with him. So, whatever it takes I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life of those who are alive from the dead.
e. we don’t have the opportunity that she did to take a stand for Christ

5. We have sold ourselves, but not to Christ
a. our hobbies
1. golf, softball, gardening, tool guys, socializing, watching tv
b. our security
1. homes, cars, retirement
c. our children’s hobbies
baseball, piano ptc, clubs, soccer, gymnastics
d. we discipline them by keeping them out of church activities

6. Learn how to give faith to your children
The Bernals appealed to parents to become more involved in the lives of their children. They urged teenagers to find their way to Church. "Don't let my daughter's death be for nothing. Make your stand. If you are not in a local church, try it"

BOSTON GLOBE 4/24/99....The last assignment Cassie completed on this earth was a reading that was to have been discussed at a youth group meeting the night she died. The book is called "Seeking Peace". In a chapter entitled "No Life without Death", the author quotes the Gospel of John: "Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But when it dies, it produces many seeds"

Conclusion…..
We dedicate this new building, not to our comfort, not to our pride but to the glory of God, that the name of Jesus Christ would be lifted up

1. see all those cool things

2. count them as rubbish

3. find Christ, offer him to your families, friends, self
how?
a. come to church/get involved
b. children involved in church activities first
c. pray….
d. Read the scriptures
e. Understand just how much he did for you
f. Open heart…..I want nothing more than Jesus
