For a Limited Time Only James 4:13-17
For a limited time only, a Big Mac is 99 cents. McDonald's 1975 -- 15 cent hamburgers. For a limited time, you can get them. The boss.....for a limited time, we have the chance to serve. You will work harder than you ever have. You will turn more burgers than you ever have. You will win people or lose people by the way we perform. More people will be here tomorrow than in any day that we have ever been open. We must serve them.
What do we do with the moment that God has given us? Will we listen to the sermon and take it to heart, or are we sitting here marking time, thinking about what we will do later?
Scripture reminds us that success today depends on our focus. You cannot hope for tomorrow's opportunity, it may not be here. The word sin -- how to talk about it? Dave Baerg -- you atone for your sin by bringing a covered dish. If there is good for us to do today, and we do not do it, it is sin.
We are the stewards, the trustees of today. As a church, we must take seriously our opportunities to do God's will. This is our moment as a church. As individuals, we must structure our lives around his will and choose to live today from the perspective that He is Lord.
My father has pictures on his living room wall of some distant relatives. They were well off, they had pictures painted of themselves. They had a life, now they are only pictures on someone's wall. Someday we will only be pictures on someone's wall.
Tomorrow is not promised. Today is the opportunity that we have. Let us be those who chose, in this God-given moment, to do His will, to love, to give, to serve, that our Lord would be glorified.
