Peace with God Romans 5:1-11 10-14-01

Sermon 10-14-01 Romans 5:1-11 Peace with God
[good stuff in this scripture]
Songs - peace like a river - irrelevant
Peace is an esoteric nebulous idea
Our world was so good that peace seemed hard to grasp, we lived it
Had been a Christian since I could think

Didn’t need peace until trials come/now we need peace
Jesus calmed the storm [easy day on lake with Jesus until…]

Peace = absence of trial, but the presence of God

What did the early Christians think when being persecuted by Romans?
“yea tho I walk thru the valley of the shadow of Death”

Source of peace
Not owning real estate, having stuff, being powerful, most tanks
But found in
1. Faith in God thru Jesus Christ
2. Preparing for task at hand

There is something different about those who put their trust in Christ
Our adversary looks to his God to kill the infidels. "God has blessed us to destroy America." "I swear to God that America will not live in peace"

Christians on the contrary, seek peace, seek cohabitation of all people
Believe in the power of the gospel to reach people without the sword.
If events call that Christians must take up a call to arms, they do so with regret, and they grieve the loss of any human life. There is something different within the souls of those who put their faith & trust in Jesus Christ.

Cathy - nervous, but not afraid
I know where I am going
I have peace with God thru Jesus Christ

Charles Welsey wrote
I rest beneath the Almighty’s shade
My griefs expire, my troubles cease
Thou Lord on whom my soul is stayed
Will keep me still in perfect peace
