Micah is called a minor prophets…..What is a minor prophet?
Micah’s time…sitz en leben
He speaks the promise of forgiveness……
Micah 7
18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.
19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. 20 You will be true to Jacob, and show mercy to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our fathers in days long ago.

Main theme of scripture- Core doctrine of the Christian faith

Litany of forgiveness
Noah, David, Jonah, Joseph’s brothers
Hosea’s wife

Jn 4 the woman at the well.
Jn 8, the woman caught in adultery
The prodigal son
The disciples that deserted him
The thief on the cross
Saul, murderer of Christians

We don’t celebrate these people because of their sin.
but our sin is always an opportunity to experience grace
Romans 6:1 shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound?
Your sins can play a positive purpose…..drive you closer to the heart of God

Woman who washed Jesus feet with her tears.
Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman
36Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. 37When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, 38and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. 39When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner."
40Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." "Tell me, teacher," he said. 41"Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[d] and the other fifty. 42Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"
43Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled." "You have judged correctly," Jesus said.
44Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."
48Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
49The other guests began to say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" 50Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

For you to remember your sins
is a be healthy if it keeps you from repeating them
It is bad if you constantly beat self up over them

How well does the church represent the grace and forgiveness of God
· The church has not always served people well.
· We are supposed to be the brokers of grace, yet the churches are filled with people who don’t feel forgiven.
· There are many who tend to be overcome with a sense of their own inadequacy instead of God’s grace.

Easier to talk about forgiving others than forgiving self.
We aren’t personally invested in the sins of others unless they effect us.
We have an innate sense of right and wrong and we are appalled, embarrassed by our sin.
We don’t connect to the sins of others. We don’t feel personally responsible for them.
We aren’t

The result is that we think god can forgive others, but not me
When we think god can forgive others but not us, we feel small,
but that is an enormous thought. Selfish thought. I am special.
My sins are worse than anyone else’s.
God is going to have to make another sacrifice for me

you don’t get another sacrifice for your sins
Well friends it was a Costco purchase. You were bought in bulk…

So: God holds no grudges
Psalm 103:12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

He keeps no record of wrongs….
1 cor 13
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Hebrews 10
16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Demello…story of forgiveness….tell the bishop I don’t remember his sins.

God holds no grudges
He keeps no record of wrongs….

There is a time to hurt and a time to heal.
The awareness of sin brings us down, but when we ask for forgiveness, we should become aware of his grace

Psalm 30 weeping lasts for a night, but joy comes in the morning….

What can I say to get thru to you.
Its over. The battle is over the victory is won.
You don’t have to carry this burden any more
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
It is what God does…….
