Scout Sunday - Matthew18:1-5 2-18-01

Sermon 2-18-01 Scout Sunday Matthew18:1-5

Meeting about greatness in f hall after church…….

They thought they were among the greatest
Argued about it
And these are the disciples

Necessity of humility
Pride ambition, power, honor must be replaced

Children in their purest form are:
Harmless, inoffensive, trusting, caring, teachable

Rich children will play with poor children
Children have no aims at greatness
Childhood is a learning age
humble

This change is needed
W/o this even disciples do not enter
Pride and self exaltation threw angels out of heaven
What if the measure of your salvation was humbling ones self???

Millstones
What is a millstone
Offending children
Prey upon, neglect, prevert children
Expect the millstone

Care for them, guide them
It is your job and they have a need….

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University reported that 30 years ago, the greatest fears of grade school children were: 1) Animals, 2) Being in a dark room, 3) High places, 4) Strangers, 5) Loud noises. Today, kids are afraid of the following: 1) Divorce, 2) Nuclear war, 3) Cancer, 4) Pollution, 5) Being mugged.

They have a need for guidance and a need for christ
Nineteenth century Scottish preacher Horatius Bonar asked 253 Christian friends at what ages they were converted. Here's what he discovered:
Under 20 years of age - 138
Between 20 and 30 - 85
Between 30 and 40 - 22
Between 40 and 50 - 4
Between 50 and 60 - 3
Between 60 and 70 - 1
Over 70 - 0

O to spend the time, O to give love & guidance
Charles Francis Adams, 19th century political figure and diplomat, kept a diary. One day he entered: "Went fishing with my son today--a day wasted." His son, Brook Adams, also kept a diary, which is still in existence. On that same day, Brook Adams made this entry: "Went fishing with my father--the most wonderful day of my life!"

Become as a child
In your humility
Care for your children, lead them
What is done for children, done for christ

Property Laws of a Toddler:
If I like it, it's mine.
1. 2. If it's in my hand, it's mine.
2. 3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
3. 4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it's mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it's broken, it's yours.
