Predicting the Future Matthew 25:1-13 2-6-05

Sermon 2-6-05 the 10 virgins Mt 25:1-13

Predicting the future….poxatonie phil

This Scripture Reminds me of the batchelor………
Potential groom, many potential brides….who is the winner
Jesus talks of 10 potentials, hoping to be the bride
5 get lost in the world and are foolish
other 5 watch, wait…no fall asleep too, but are prepared

One of the great fears of our day is fear of the future……..
Comes in two forms
1. retirement, althimers, etc
2. second coming fears

regarding your personal future, retirement etc
Mt 6
What are we going to do if bread goes to $1 a loaf? Buy bread
Such worry is not only fruitless, it robs you of the joy of living today

Regarding fears of the end of time, let me chime in….the end may be near
Many have made their name writing about 2nd coming
Scaring people…….oodles of false predicitoins
Many scriptures regarding end of time
Left behind books show 1 picture
Dispensational theology may be current fad, but not the only theological view
Which is the point exactly, we don’t know. We aren’t supposed toknow

We want to know
We want to feel important….I cannot die

I got lost in Hal Lindsay
1284-pope innocent 3, added 666 to day islam was founded
1832- joseph smith
jehovahs witnesses….many dates
1978…chuck smith, calvary chapel
1982….pat Robertson
1988…hal lindsey
Jerry falwell…the antichrist is alive today
Henry Kissinger……….666

In the old testament they stoned false prophets

Appease your guilt re your knowledge of the 2nd coming
Bible was not written so you could know how he was coming back
Not written so you could know the when
Bible was written so that you could have jesus in your life today and an eternity with him

Conclusion
Among the 10 hopeful brides….which are you………
We all fall asleep sometimes
But we should be diligent and ready
If in this life we are ready, it wont matter when or how the master returns.
If you have him you have everything you need

Communion
Why is it here?
To help you with the today
To calm your fears
To remind you that his is with you
Come and find sustenance for your soul.
Do Not Worry
25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
