Opening story..Some years ago there was a Prodigal Son cartoon in which a father was going down the road to meet his son. The caption read, I'll be glad when this boy grows up; this is the sixth fatted calf. When is he going to get it?
Common use of this passage…God forgives sinners, welcomes them
This cadence of life has been repeated for all of time……
You think you know it all, you spend your resources until they are gone…..
Then when we have no other choice we come home broken
God forgives sinners, welcomes them…great joy in heaven
other uses/themes of this passage
· the powerlessness of a gentleman God to force a sinner to repent
· Giving young people enough room to find independence…A bit at a time
· Sin [define]= give me what I am due ….Where will the self will take one?
· power and love….taking power, giving love

How far have you gone to win someone you were separated from?
Proverbs 16:7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
What will you do? Someone is waiting for you
Mt 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother hath ought against thee;24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
One of the truest forms of worship is reconciliation. Forgiveness
Yes, It takes two….But you can be one of the two
When the prodigals see the Father's love in the Father's house, they will come home.
Maybe today, a friend is waiting for you, a son a daughter, a father
God is waiting….for you
Maybe folks, the heavenly father is waiting….
For you to decide that it is time to come home.
His arms are open, all you have to do is head in the right direction
He will see you coming…And come out to meet you
