shin bone connected to the knee bone
sermon 9-24-06 1 cor 12:12-18 Find Your Peace In The Puzzle
intro
what if the church were destroyed by an earthquake?
You mean what if the building were destroyed
We are a people group, a family, a unit
Illustrated in the scripture today……….great illustration for archaic people
Hands and feet the body of Christ-all the parts matter
There is a story circulating about the patient who went to his physician complaining of pain in several places. The doctor asked him to indicate where it hurt. He pointed first to his leg, then to his back, then to his side, finally to his head. "Every time I press on these places, it hurts." After a careful examination, the physician diagnosed his problem: "You have a broken finger."
Finding my place-what body part am I?
There is something that I am supposed to do
You don’t walk on eyeballs,
You don’t see with feet
Many lost puzzle pieces in the world
hold the one piece back on my kids……..
hard to feel connected if you sit on the sidelines
#1 reason for drop outs
Scott Sanders tells the story of a home builder in a small Ohio town who was asked to join the volunteer fire department. He politely declined. After all, what could he get out of it? His home was brick, wired to code, and fire-resistant.But one day his house caught fire. The volunteer firemen showed up with the pumper truck. But before turning on the water, they playfully asked the contractor if he still saw no reason to join. Without hesitation, he said he would be glad to join right then and there, and the fire was extinguished. "We should not have to wait until our houses are burning before we see the wisdom of facing our local needs by joining in common work. ... We had better learn how to live well together, or we will live miserably apart."
We did not build the building for people to sit in pews………
Museum vs launching pad
This is a launching pad, not a museum
passion
puzzled about life----------don’t know where you fit ---lost
There is an old story about a West Virginia lad who was sitting on a fence at the crossing of two narrow roads. A man in a very large car with New York plates roared to a stop in front of him, let down the electric window and said, "Young man, I'm lost. Can you tell me where this road goes?"He said, "No sir, I can't."The man said, "Well, can you tell me where that road goes?"The boy said, "No sir, I can't."The man said, "Well, young man, don't you know anything?"The boy said, "I know I'm not lost."
